This is the millennial moment, long expected and feared by companies that built their brands for baby boomers. They are ageing and their offspring, once called the \u201cecho boom\u201d, are no longer teenagers, or even students.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Pew Research Center, the US research group, defines millennials as the 73M\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-1146 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/blendly.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Milenials--300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Blendly Barista Distributors\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blendly.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Milenials--300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blendly.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Milenials-.jpg 620w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Americans aged between 22 and 37, who will next year overtake boomers in number. \u201cWe don\u2019t think of them as special or different any more. They are the core of our business,\u201d says Alan Jope, president of beauty and personal care at Unilever.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The coming of age of the world\u2019s 2BN millennials is not only a generational shift: it is one of ethnicity and nationality. Forty three per cent of US millennials are non-white, and millennials in Asia vastly outnumber those in Europe and the US.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1148\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1148\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1148 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/blendly.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Millennials2-300x183.jpg\" alt=\"Blendly Barista Distributors\" width=\"300\" height=\"183\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blendly.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Millennials2-300x183.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blendly.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Millennials2-768x470.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blendly.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Millennials2-1024x626.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blendly.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Millennials2.jpg 1406w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1148\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Millennials text with young woman holding a tablet computer in a chair<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Despite China\u2019s former one-child policy, it has 400M millennials, more than five times the US figure (and more than the entire US population) while Morgan Stanley estimates that India\u2019s 410M millennials will spend $330BN annually by 2020.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Millennials have reached what the bank calls \u201cthe most important age range for economic activity\u201d, when households are formed, babies are born and money is spent not just on going out but on settling down. Simon Isaacs, co-founder of Fatherly, an information and e-commerce site for millennial parents, cites family camping as one of its most popular topics. \u201cThat does extremely well for us. They like to buy cool family tents and share videos of their trips.\u201d The world has changed. Millennials want these little brands, local brands Nelson Peltz, activist investor This reflects the depth to which technology is integrated into millennials\u2019 lives and habits.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-1147 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/blendly.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/MilenialsBULER-300x157.jpg\" alt=\"Blendly Barista Distributors\" width=\"300\" height=\"157\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blendly.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/MilenialsBULER-300x157.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blendly.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/MilenialsBULER-768x402.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blendly.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/MilenialsBULER-1024x536.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blendly.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/MilenialsBULER.jpg 1910w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The oldest were teenagers at the time of the Netscape initial public offering in 1995, as the internet became a mass medium, and the youngest was 11 when the Apple iPhone was launched in 2007.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">They are used not only to communicating online but buying most things there: $25BN was spent on Alibaba\u2019s Singles Day online shopping festival in China on November 11.
